Research and development

We perform applied research regarding design of actions aiming at reduced eutrophication problems. Our research is funded through assignments predominantly from authorities and industry. Our development of technique and methods is evaluated primarily by water monitoring.

The extensive monitoring tasks carried out by WEREC in different parts in Sweden and other countries surrounding the Baltic Sea, to a large extent on commission for IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, provides research data that contributes to development of knowledge regarding the transport dynamics for particularly Phosphorus, in ditches, streams and rivers.

In co-operation with SMHI, the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, knowledge on the effects and efficiency of new types of remedial measures, such as Calcium filter beds, is developed, for integration in modelling software such as HYPE.

Our research results are disseminated through publication in international scientific literature.
